IGA – "That you can learn." – Education for a better future

The IGA project supports young people in Burundi, Rwanda and Kenya in their school and vocational training, for children from poor families or those affected by the various civil wars in Burundi.

The conflicts in the Great Lakes region of Africa, which have lasted for over 30 years, have forced many young people to drop out of school. Furthermore, the educational infrastructure that enables children to learn has been destroyed, making school attendance almost impossible.

The “IGA” project comprises three areas:

A. Coverage of school and/or university fees for pupils and students from disadvantaged families

B. Taking over the costs of vocational training, especially for young women who have dropped out of school, so that they can become financially independent.

C. Financing of school desks and other school supplies to enable a dignified education

Education creates opportunities and contributes to peace in the long term!

- A secondary school education costs approximately €250 per year.
- A university education costs approximately €500 per year.
- A tailoring course - including a starter kit - costs approximately €600 as a one-off payment.

A school desk made on site costs approximately €30 each; three children can sit comfortably on a school bench.
